Growing Through Experiences

Balloons Over Broadway

After reading Balloons Over Broadway, first graders proudly presented their creative floats and balloons during the sixth annual Balloons Over Bostian Parade in front of their families and loved ones. Each design showcased future careers they dream of, characters they adore, and activities that bring them joy. They even wrote sentences about their creations and bravely read them aloud to a standing-room-only crowd! What a festive celebration of creativity, imagination, and big first-grade dreams!

Science Activity

Ms. Hunt’s fifth-grade class had a hands-on lesson all about the digestive system. After “eating” a piece of bread, students followed its journey through the body to see how digestion works. By adding foods they might eat throughout the day, along with stomach acid, students got an up-close look at just how intricate our bodies are. This cool (and slightly icky) activity encouraged curiosity and active learning. To wrap up the experience, students visited the library to meet with Ms. Roberson and continue exploring their knowledge of the human body.

Room on the Broom

After reading “Room on the Broom,” first graders at Bostian Elementary School received a surprise visit from a friendly witch who came to make her Witches’ Brew! She asked students for their teeth, spiders, cobwebs, and other spooky ingredients to finish her magical recipe, and these Bostian Bulldogs were more than happy to help with the “special” brew. Once the spell was cast by the witch and students, everyone enjoyed a tasty treat full of popcorn, gummy worms, and other fun goodies. What a magical way to bring reading to life!
